  • people will never forget how you made them feel

I’m part of a project, called artZine. Each month, visiting artists collaborate with the community of a different small town to create a self published magazine. each month, there is a theme. April’s artZine will be on the 23rd, and our theme is “I remember when…”

this activity is free and open to the public. April 23rd, at the barn in Rabbit Hash, KY. There is still time to draw, paint, write, print, or create an entry however you are inspired. We’ll meet from 10-4pm.

for my entry, I chose to make a linocut of Maya Angelou’s famous quote because it illustrates the abstraction of memory, and the importance of kindness. Rabbit Hash, KY.

people will always remember how you made them feel
  • eagle creek – layer 9 (of 11)

Its always exciting to print a new layer, and watch a reduction print come to life. I feel like I am getting closer to. my goal of printing in a painterly way.

  • newsprint patterns while printmaking

    patterns from newsprint test prints

I use newsprint to clean my blocks in between colors. I re use the newsprint, and sometimes I get a nice surprise when the colors line up in a certain way. as beautiful as the finished artwork, I think.

  • Reduction Print – April 16, 2016 -Ripley, Ohio

This video shows a little bit of what goes on during the 2 weeks it took to make this reduction woodcut of a river village (Ripley, OH) on the Ohio River.

My background as an artist is in many mediums, but primarily painting. This project is part of an experiment to see if I can print similar to the way I paint.

Because the block is destroyed as part of the printing process, there is only a very limited edition of 12 available.

  • Bridge Over Ducky Water -Reduction Woodcut timelapse

Here’s a timelapse of my latest 11 color reduction woodcut.

I use the same block for all 11 colors…carving a little bit away each time

  • sometimes the block is a beautiful art object

I’m cutting away the 7th color (2 colors to go!) for a reduction block print. the different textures and patterns of the block are really interesting at this point… a work of art in itself… so I took this picture to share

  • I started a new woodcut today

    carving reduction woodcut print

we are having good weather today, so I took my table outside, and started a new woodcut.

I’m also taking advantage of the sun by converting my van into a solar powered drying rack.

these multi colored reduction woodcuts can take a few weeks to go from beginning to finish. There is a lot of waiting time because I am using oil based inks. My strategy is to work on a group of prints at once. that way I always have something to do!

    stay tuned, more prints soon!

  • March ArtZine Linocut – Count Your Blessings

March ArtZine Linocut – Count Your Blessings

Every month, I visit a different small town and invite everyone to meet up and make an art maga(zine). Our theme for March’s ‘zine’ is LUCK. (We are meeting on March 26 In Brooksville, KY – come join us!)For my entry, i designed/carved/printed this linocut.

It seems like whenever I think about the things I DONT have in my life, i feel like an unlucky person. BUT – if I think about the things I DO have, I realize how lucky I am! That idea was the inspiration for this month’s linocut.

The image is 8×5″ and printed on an 11×14″ cotton paper. I made a few extras to sell for $35- not only do you get a beautiful handmade linocut, but you are also helping support my other art projects. For over 10 years, all of my income has come from art making, and your support. thank you for making it possible!
